A proposal is a form of argument aimed at defining a problem and solving it. It is an action-oriented genre, so it has the benefit of relevance. For this class, we will be addressing a major problem, a personal problem, or a local problem.
Proposal writing asks you to do important rhetorical work and critical thinking. You must define a problem; recognize an audience with the power to bring about change; create, explain, and justify a plan of action; and convince readers both of the immediacy and importance of their problem and the relevancy and efficacy of the proposed actions.
A proposal is substantially different from a traditional argument paper and therefore requires a novel approach. We will work together with the research, writing, and revision process.
