As a parent, you want to do everything in your power to protect your child from harms way. Then one day you go to the Pediatrician’s office and your child is suddenly diagnosed with Autism. It’s like a tornado came through your life and tore everything up, but now you don’t where to go or how to pick up the pieces. One way to solve this issue is to educate the parents on vaccinations for their young children.
It is important to vaccinate your kids because you know what is best for your children, but nothing is better then protecting them for live active viruses, threatening the safety and well being of your children. “The Measles, Mumps, and Rubella virus is a viral diseases that can have serious consequences. Measles can lead to ear infections, diarrhea, pneumonia. Rarely measles can cause brain damage or death. Mumps can lead to deafness, encephalitis, meningitis, painful swelling of the testicles or ovaries, and very rarely death. Rubella can lead to arthritis.”( Center Disease of Control and Prevention).
In Wakefield’s Fraudulent Articles, “It was possible that he was wrong, but not dishonest, that he was so incompetent that he was unable to fairly describe the project or to report even one of the twelve children’s cases accurately. He refused to join ten of his co-authors in retracting the papers interpretation in 2004 and has repeatedly denied doing anything wrong at all. Instead, stripped of his clinical and academic credentials, he continues to push his views.” This is one reason why their are so many children that are not getting proper treatment because their parents read a false article and blamed vaccines for trigging autism or other illness. Although it is understood to blame someone for something that is out of your control, because it is easier to except that rather than except the truth.
One why to fix this issue, is to encourage parents to do their own research, consult their children’s doctor, and post importantly do not trust fake news. According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, “Children should get two doses of the MMR vaccine, usually the first does is given twelve through fifteen months of age and the second dose is given from the fourth through sixth year of age. In the article Cases in Vaccine Court, “A child with Autism is likely to require extraordinarily expensive services and to have very limited employment prospects in adulthood. Besides many parents of autistic children may feel better psychologically if they can blame profit seeking drug companies for their children’s problems.” (D. Stephen and J.D. Sugarman ). For instance, Jennifer McCarthy, a former playmate had a son that was diagnosed as being Autistic. “She blame his outcome on a previous vaccine he had received, saying that we have all these unnecessary vaccines that our children do not need. Doctor’s feared that her position in the lime light would hurt future generations to come because McCarthy didn’t have any expertise. ” She even joined the Anti-Vaccine Movement, also known as the Anti-Vaxer’s. Jennifer McCarthy is also known for debating this topic on the popular television shows such as, “The Doctor’s.”
Another way we can solve this problem is by acknowledging that the study that was done had no supporting facts and has been disproven on countless occasions. According to Institute of Medicine, “While the author’s acknowledged that the study did not prove an association between MMR and the conditions seen in these children, the report generated considerable interest and concern about a possible link between MMR vaccination and Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) regressive autism in particular. A recent statement from ten of the original thirteen authors states that the data were insufficient to establish a causal link between MMR vaccine and Autism (6).”
In conclusion, the U.S. Federal Court reports on the ruling of judges in the United States Court of Federal Claims that the MMR virus vaccine, administered containing vaccines does not lead to autism. One major issue that our population is currently facing is that we are having breakouts of live active viruses, not just the MMR vaccine, but parents had opted out on other vaccines as well that we almost had dormant. The best possible solution to this problem is to enlighten parents on why it is important to vaccinate your children and to began the process, Pediatrician’s that come into contact with parents that are concerned about vaccinations, should really be encouraged by them and be completely aware of all the possible benefits that vaccinating your child can do for their health and well being.
